Brown University's premier South Asian fusion A Cappella Group!
Contact us to learn more.
Brown Barsaat was founded in 2012 by Karishma Bhatia and Sriya Muralidharan. The group consisted of 7 female students who wanted to share their love of Western and South Asian music with College Hill.
After several years of hiatus, the group rejoined the a cappella community in 2017. With new members, arrangements, and excitement, the group once again became a staple of Brown's performing arts scene and South Asian community.
Brown Barsaat seeks to blend traditional and modern South Asian and Western melodies to provide dynamic, fun, and captivating a cappella performances.
Brown Barsaat currently performs at various events both on and off Brown's campus.
Each year, we prepare for our annual spring show in April/May where we showcase our
arrangements from throughout the entire year to an audience of over 100+ people.
You can often find us at Brown South Asian Student Association's annual community events,
such as SASA Family Weekend (where we showcase our new barbabies' talent) and Culture Show.
We also perform for other groups that represent the South Asian diaspora, such as Brown Badmaash,
Abhinaya, and Visions Magazine.
As part of Brown's broader A Capella community, we perform at multiple campus events
throughout the year. These typically include performances under the Faunce and Wayland arches
(a.k.a "arch sings"), the Umeed Benefit Concert, and midnight organ concerts in Sayles Hall.
As part of the broader South Asian A Capella community, we do our best to visit other campuses
to connect with groups outside of Brown and coordinate performances. To date, we have performed
at MIT, Wellesley College, and Babson College.
